Appeals Process

Elementary (K-4th Grade) Appeals

A parent/guardian of a child who requests a reevaluation for his/her child's eligibility must submit an appeal form stating the reasons they believe their child should receive high ability services. The High Ability Committee will review the student’s records and make a determination. The Committee will inform the parent/guardian in writing of their decision.
 
Intermediate (5th & 6th Grade) Appeals

A parent/guardian of a child who requests a reevaluation for his/her child's eligibility must submit an appeal form stating the reasons they believe their child should receive high ability services. The High Ability Committee will review the student’s records and make a determination. The Committee will inform the parent/guardian in writing of their decision.
 
Middle School (grades 7 & 8) Appeals
 
A parent/guardian of a child who requests a reevaluation for his/her child's eligibility must submit an appeal form stating the reasons they believe their child should receive high ability services. At the middle school level, all appeals go through the guidance department.  After review by the Honors Committee, the guidance department will inform the parent/guardian of its decision. The Honors Committee will not meet or address appeals until the month of August.
 
High School (grades 9-12) Appeals

A parent/guardian of a child who requests a reevaluation for his/her child's eligibility must submit an appeal form stating the reasons they believe their child should receive high ability services. At the high school level all appeals go through the guidance department. The guidance department will inform the parent/guardian of its decision.
